The Art, The Craft & The Technology of Architectural Lighting

Architectural lighting design deals with reflected light, the light we see bouncing off the surfaces of the room, the furniture, the decors and the people. The light sources should be inconspicuous, unless they are part of the decorative element.

THE ART

Successful lighting design start with an understanding of the aesthetic and emotional appeals prescribed by the designer, namely the style, the composition, and the mood:

Style The style may call for a soft, even glow for a contemporary design, or patches of warm light for an Victorian style design, or anything in between.

Composition Highlight individual objects in a setting and unit them with the background to create a visually balanced, harmonious and rhythmic composition.

Mood  The ceiling height, the colour scheme, daylight, furniture are some of the major elements that affect our mood in a space. Lighting accents the features, or make up for the shortcomings to create the desired mood.

THE CRAFT

The goal of lighting design is to turn the functional and aesthetic requirements into reality.

FIXTURE SELECTION AND PLANNING

Given a specific requirement, most suitable lighting fixtures and their positions are selected by using Dialux lighting.  Then, we provide renderings to let the designer visualize the lighting effects.

AIMING

Adjustment of the direction, beam angle, and light intensity is required when the decoration is completed.   Additional filters and modifier may be added to the lighting fixtures in order to ensure that the design requirements are met.

GLARE CONTROL

Minimizing glare is a top priority for us, because irritating glare is the first design flaw that people notice. Light modifiers can be added to further suppress glare, enabling designers to create a glare free environment.

THE TECHNOLOGY

LED lighting has low power consumption, long lifespan, and many other advantages over legacy light sources.  However, the priorities of various participants in the lighting industry are different.  While most manufacturers emphasis power saving, we are more concerned with providing designers the best light quality, namely the light colour and the beam shape.

BEAM SHAPE

It is the most important feature of a directional lighting fixtures. We use total internal reflect (TIR) lens in all of our fixtures, which produce precise a beam spot that gradually fades to a soft edge with a minimal spill, providing natural, unobtrusive highlights.

LIGHT COLOUR Our Impressionist™ COB LED package emits light that enhances color clarity by boosting the violet and the red spectrums, so your eyes can distinguish more shades of colour.  We also offer Realist™ halogen mimicking COB LED with Ra value greater than 97.
